Emergency Light Shutdown
(Alternating Red Shutoff Switch)
Stem Electronics is pleased to announce our collaboration with the Recovery Industry Support Charity (RISC) to develop E.L.S.i, a product designed to automatically shut down emergency rear-facing red flashing lamps. This functionality ensures compliance with new government regulations governing the use of these lamps within the vehicle recovery industry while the vehicle is in motion.

The automated control uses a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and, when necessary, an Inertial Measuring Unit (IMU) where a GNSS signal is not available. This system is effective in disabling the rear-facing red flashing lamps when the vehicle speed exceeds a predetermined threshold, thereby ensuring full regulatory compliance.

The development of this product is a good example of an idea that we believed in and funded the full product development. Revenue from the sale of this product is shared between Stem Electronics and RISC.
-
The rear-facing red flashing lamps cannot be illuminated if the amber lamps are not active.
-
When leaving an incident, the rear-facing red flashing lamps will be turned off automatically when the vehicle exceeds 5mph.
-
The rear-facing red flashing lamps can be turned on before the brakes are applied, allowing time for vehicle manoeuvring at the scene.
-
ELSi starts monitoring vehicle movement 10 seconds after the rear-facing red flashing lamps are switched on.
